MCFC overview

Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention was this weekend, as you probably gathered from my last post. Even thought it wasn't as profitable as I had hoped, I still had a great time. SOMEHOW I did not take one.single.picture during the entire three days. Ok, maybe one and it was just of my booth as a "hello! Here I am!" reminder. However, a lot of people took pictures of me, so if anyone knows where I can find them, hit a girl up. One guy took close up photos of my photos and ran off. Uhhh, not too happy about that.

Thanks to my friend, Kasey, I met a lot of very awesome people my first night and was greeted with smiles, open arms, and inside jokes for the remainder of the weekend. Also alcohol. Lots of alcohol. Not the "falling down the escalator" amount by any means,  but enough to openly take a poll in my panel asking how long anyone thought it would take before someone tried to use that space between the handrails as a slide.

Speaking of, the BBC panel, in my opinion, went great. I learned some things from some of the more technical oriented fans. I also learned that I should never have mentioned the internet rumor that is going around about how Clara may be the Doctor. BIG mistake. I also don't remember Martha and Mickey getting married, as one of the audience members brought it up. Going to have to look up that one. There were only three of us panelists, one of which had lost her voice, the other was only well versed in BBC period pieces. I had to take the reins for the rest. Stated the obvious for a few, especially the two very presumptuous, technical oriented Doctor Who fans, but I think I ultimately earned their respect.

At least, the Jameson made me believe I did. That's all that matters.

I also learned that I have no idea how to control a panel. After about 40-45 minutes, several conversations began happening all at the same time for about 10-15 minutes or so. It was hard to come back from that. Did my best to announce this blog at the end because the other panelists didn't have anything they wanted to advertise. I don't think anyone heard me, but that's ok.

One girl asked about Supernatural early on. I told her that (whatever she asked) was a very good question, though it was not BBC. I saved it with the fact that I love the show and spent a good few minutes explaining it to her and the rest of the room with other SuperWhoLockians happily chiming in.

At the end of it all, I made new friends, became part of a family, and hard a great time.

Then I discovered "Con Crud", or "con funk" as it is alternately referred to as.

I had heard people mention it here and there throughout the weekend. From what I can tell, it refers to anything ranging from a nervous stomach, to straight up flu like symptoms. For me, I woke up Monday morning to get ready for work, and passed out: on my toilet, in a chair in my bathroom, the shower, the floor, and finally my bed. My body was completely exhausted, I couldn't see straight or keep my eyes from crossing and rolling back into my head. I was running late for work and was able to get a text out to my boss just in time before passing out (again) for him to assign someone else my clients for the next few days without skipping a beat. Felt really bad about it, though. Now I'm broke, but I have spent the last three days recuperating. Of course, after the holiday, I am working (at least) a ten-day-straight work "week."

On a side note, I have some side work that I need to catch up on and have a few possible and exciting new ventures coming up in the very near future. I also got some much needed feedback and suggestions on my #behindthestrip project, as well as a few ways to branch it out. Hoping the motivation kicks in.

On another side note, River is coming back for the Doctor Who Christmas Special??? WTF?
